Tsegai Teclemicael

Tsegai Teclemicael Ghebrehiwot (Engineer) was born in Asmara. He attended Italian School and later Emperor Haile Selassie I School (now Adulis), as well as Felege-hiwet Elementary School, where he studied through the sixth grade.

In 1972, he went into exile with his family and moved to Ethiopia, where he continued his education at Asfawessen Middle School and Nefas Silk Comprehensive Secondary School in Addis Ababa.

In June 1976, he returned to Asmara and continued his education at Luel Mekonen School through the eleventh grade.

Beginning in October 1976, he became involved with the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front (EPLF) in Asmara. In December 1977, he went into exile in Sudan, and in November 1978, he subsequently moved to Germany.

While living in exile in Germany, he graduated in February 1984 with a diploma in Electromechanics from Bundesfachanstalt für Elektrotechnik (BfE Oldenburg) in Oldenburg.

He then attended Hochschule Bremen in Bremen, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Power Engineering. After completing his degree, he worked as a Project Engineer until June 1992.

In November 1993, after many years in exile in Germany, he returned to his homeland, Eritrea.

After returning to Eritrea, he worked at the Ministry of Energy at the Beleza Power Station and also served as a supervisor at the Ministry of Construction. From May 1997 to May 1999, he worked as a builder with Wagner System.

In August 1999, he received military training as part of the reserve forces at the Sawa Defense Forces Training Center. After being assigned to Asmara in March 2000 and serving there for a period, he was discharged from the reserve forces in August 2000.

From June 1999 until 2006, he operated his own private engineering consulting firm. He later entered the business sector and continued working in commerce.

Among his best-known works is “The Spy in Mekelle,” which has reached more than 500,000 readers.

To date, he has completed 13 books and literary works, including works he has written, edited, translated, and prepared for publication. All have already been published, while one completed and awaiting publication.

His most recent work, “Isaias Afwerki: Out of the Big Small Picture,” examines the political journey of President Isaias Afwerki and presents an exploration of his political career and development from a broader historical perspective.
